Family business for over 70 years
We are a family business from Upper Bavaria, now in our fourth generation! This gives us 70 years of experience in leather goods, which is reflected in the quality of our products.

We combine rustic design with modern, which has allowed us to successfully create our brand Hodalump & Ratschkatl®.

Leather quality
Our leather wallets and accessories are made from natural and renewable raw materials. Therefore, all products are entirely handcrafted from high-quality leather and are a lifelong companion for our customers.

In the production of our leather goods, we only use natural leather sourced from the food chain. This ensures that we use natural resources responsibly and in an environmentally friendly manner.

Why are your wallets so extremely durable?
It's quite simple: We craft our wallets exclusively by hand from genuine full-grain buffalo leather, considered the most robust leather in the world. We also seal the surface of the wallets using a special sanding technique. As our wallets are used, this creates a vibrant patina that underscores the individual character of this expressive leather.

What exactly is a Hodalump?
A Hodalump translates as a cheeky guy who is up to no good.

He's funny, knows everything better, and nobody can fool him!

He is the alpha animal, the boss or simply put, a hodalump.

Care instructions:
Clean the surface thoroughly with a damp cloth. Then apply leather conditioner (available from us) with a soft, clean cloth and gently massage it in. Avoid chemical cleaners.

✔ Material behavior: Since this is a natural product, the color may change slightly due to external influences such as moisture.
✔ Use: Do not store the product near open flames or extreme temperatures.
✔ Allergy Advice: Genuine leather may contain natural and chemical tanning agents. Sensitive skin may experience irritation.

How leather goods are made at Hodalump & Ratschkatl
The complex production process of a handcrafted, unique piece at Hodalump & Ratschkatl is a true act of craftsmanship and therefore requires precise handwork and decades of experience.

1. Material selection: The process begins with the careful selection of high-quality materials. Only the finest full-grain buffalo leather, goatskin, or cowhide, sourced from the food chain and untreated, is used for our leather goods.

2. Cutting: Experienced craftsmen cut the leather into precise shapes according to the product design. Each piece is individually cut to ensure a perfect fit and to showcase the leather's natural grain.

3. Sewing and double stitching: The individual pieces are carefully sewn together by hand. Particular attention is paid to the double stitching in the most critical areas of the product, which not only ensures a robust connection but is also a distinctive feature of our products.

4. Oiling and tanning: After sewing, the leather goods are oiled with high-quality vegetable oil to make the leather supple and enhance its natural color. This step also gives the leather a certain resistance to external influences.

5. Finishing and patina: A special sanding technique seals the surface, which not only provides a beautiful shine but also creates a vibrant patina. This patina develops over time, making each wallet unique and one of a kind.

6. Quality Control: Every product undergoes stringent quality controls to ensure it meets our high standards. Despite these controls, it occasionally happens that a seam unravels due to the individual nature of the leather. Therefore, every order automatically comes with a two-year warranty: Should a manufacturing defect occur, please simply contact us, and we will send you a replacement free of charge.
